CITY PLAN !!!!
The Artistic Weaving Gallery
"Na Jatkach"
belongs to a complex of 24 tenement houses, built of bricks
in the early Middle Ages. The so-called "Macella antiqua" are situated in the
north - west part of Stare Miasto area, near the Odra river bed, to the north of St.
Elisabeths Church. This area was originally a part of the Prince Curia. When founding the
city of Wroc³aw in 1241 - 1242, Stare Jatki and the neighbouring areas were bestowed to
the chief of the town and its council. From its early beginnings, Jatki performed a
commercial function and derived its name from the meat stalls which had been situated
there in the past. Owing to this, the street posseses a unique character at present. Since
1991 the street and art galleries located there have belonged to The Polish Artists
Association. However, the Artistic Weaving Gallery existing here since 1978, developed its
exceptional atmosphere and traditions.
It is the place, where artists can come into contact or meet. Both the weaving group
"10 x YES" and the Foundation for the Development of Wroc³aw Decorative Textile
are situated there as well.
